FRENCH ACTIONS

The French Ministry of Environment (MTES) is in charge of coordinating the implementation of the SDGs in France in close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI). An interdepartmental working group will be set up with the help of the Commissioner-General for Sustainable Development (CGDD) as well as High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development (HFDD). It will cover all the involved ministries. The Observation and Statistics Department of the MEEM (SoeS) will oversee half of the data used for monitoring indicators at the national level, and INSEE will be responsible for coordinating this data.

France, along with 22 other countries, has volunteered to present a report on the implementation of SDGs in France at the UN High-Level Political Forum that was held in New York City from July 11 to 20, 2016. To prepare this initial report and provide additional support, the Ministry decided to:

  • Consult with stakeholders: NGOs, businesses, unions, and associations specialized in humanitarian, biodiversity, and education issues met on June 6 and 7 during the consultation workshops to add their ideas and suggestions to the report, thus helping to ensure the practical implementation of the report’s recommendations in France. The FWP participated in these workshops. Click here for an overview of these workshops.

  • Involve citizens: an online consultation allowed French citizens to share their opinions on the actions that France should carry out. The consultation ended on July 6.

  • Mobilize territories: consultation workshops will be held this autumn in each French region.

The members of the FWP responded to the draft French report on the implementation of the SDGs, which will be submitted to the United Nations at the High-Level Political Forum. See their comments here.
