Adaptation
850,000 people are directly exposed to the risk of flooding in the Paris area. However, in the case of a flood similar to that of 1910, the undesirable effects would reach beyond the area directly affected by flooding. They would impact 4 to 5 million people in varying degrees. Nearly 2 million people would be affected by power cuts and 2.7 million by stoppages in the drinking water supply. The local public basin establishment EPTB Seine Grands Lacs is implementing a multi-stakeholder initiative which seeks to inform and educate at-risk populations, reduce the vulnerability of the region and improve flood retention.
