Adaptation
In parallel to the national study “Explore 2070”, the Adour-Garonne Water Agency carried out the “Garonne 2050” study in order to anticipate the issues and impacts of global change locally. By 2050, the natural low-flow rates will be halved for the Garonne basin, which is both a major farming area and a very attractive region from a demographic point of view. From these observations, three scenarios based on the choices that might be made by water managers were studied; minimal, partial or total offsetting of the natural decline in flows.
