2015: A crucial year for water in the world

Update 2015-04-09

Press release

On the occasion of World Water Day on March 22nd, the French Water Partnership (FWP) recalls the importance of a global mobilization for water, as 2015 will be an exceptionally important year for the future of humanity and our planet.
The FWP: Targeted initiatives to meet the three landmarks of the year
The World Water Forum, flagship event of the water international community, soon returns for a 7th edition in South Korea from April 12th to 17th 2015. The FWP and its members will argue a strong French mobilization on global water challenges.

In September, new Sustainable Development Goals will be set by the United Nations for the period 2015-2030. The French Water Partnership calls for a specific Water Goal and ambitious follow-up indicators. This is necessary to meet the enormous challenges our world has to face.

Agriculture, which requires a lot of water, will need to feed more than 9 billion people in 2050. 361 000 deaths of children under five years old could be prevented each year through better water, sanitation and hygiene.

The United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 21) will be hosted by France from November 30th to December 11th. The French Water Partnership will work for greater inclusion of water in the negotiations on climate change. So that an action for climate may also be an action for water.

Climate change seriously impacts water resources and threatens our basic needs such as access to food, clean water, energy, public health.
The French Water Partnership is a non-profit organization founded in 2007 on World Water Day. It is a French platform for discussing and exchanging ideas that help to place water at the top of the global political agenda. It also helps to share the collective know-how of French players throughout the world. The FWP now has more than 120 members from the public and private water sectors.
