Project description

Since the creation of the first prototypes of the Solar-Dripper we made tests and measurements of flow to check the growth of the plants, to measure the flow of watering and to compare it with the needs of the plants. The first observations in Quebec were made by compiring the flow and an observation of the weather ( sunny, cloudy or rainy). In 2010 in Annecy, we did further tests using two agricultural weather stations able to measure the hourly and daily evapotranspiration. These first detailed correlation curves were followed by new tests in 2018 at the Payerne weather station with measurements of water requirements provided by a precision lysimeter.

Application of mycorrhizal inoculant with the Solar-Dripper

Project description

We have tested and developed mycorrhizal inoculant for use with the Solar-Dripper. This product is used to dispense live spores and microorganisms encapsulated and packaged in solid pods. The pods are simply added into the Solar-Dripper bottles with the water. This "living symbiotic soup" is applied to the heart of the roots by solar drip.

Use of urine as a free fertilizer

Project description

We tested the possibility of using urine mixed with the irrigation water and applied with the Solar-Dripper. Initially our goal was to verify the absence of clogging of the Solar-Dripper. But the tests with corn were very conclusive and we expanded the tests to houseplants, strawberries and other vegetables. This very simple recovery of urine allows 3 advantages: 1- water savings, 2- savings of fertilizer cost and 3 economy of the treatment of urine. Clogging test of the Solar-Dripper

Project description

We tested The Solar-Dripper for tolerance to particles and biofilms in rainwater. Clogging is a serious problem with conventional drip systems and they all need to use filtered water between 80 and 200 microns to remove the particles. Despite filtration, conventional drippers are prone to breakdowns by the development of biofilms. The Solar-Dripper uses another sealing technology and allows 10 times larger particles to pass through and use rainwater directly without filtration. A new class of particle tolerances is born: UTC> 2mm is "Ultra Tolerant to Clogging" with the free passage of particles of more than 2 mm.

Description of the product

Solar drip is an autonomous and optimized watering system. This system is used for indoor plants, for the balcony and for garden. The water saving is maximum with an application in depth, the synchronism of the flow with the needs of the plants and with the tolerance to the clogging. It can us any type of synthetic or bio fertilizer including urine. The Solar-Dripper was awarded the Efficient Solution Label by the Solar Impulse Fundation.
