Water management in the Oases: a unique model of agro-ecology
Oases constitute a unique and little-known model of agro-ecological management of water resources, the result of the ancestral know-how of local populations. Despite a scarce resource, they produce quite abundant and diversified food while contributing to local development. Through concrete examples, this event will allow us to better understand the functioning of these irrigated systems and the good practices developed over time and to draw useful lessons for other regions of the world in a context of global climate change. The discussion will be aligned with the 2030 agenda, with oasis systems contributing in particular to the achievement of SDGs 1 and 2 on poverty and food.
Purpose:
– Explain the methods of water management and mobilization in oases
– Present good water practices in oases
– Apply the lessons of this model to other regions.
