THE INTERNATIONAL HYDROLOGICAL PROGRAM (IHP)

The International Hydrological Programme (IHP) is the only intergovernmental programme of the UN system devoted to water research, water resources management, and education and capacity building. Since its inception in 1975, IHP has evolved from an internationally coordinated hydrological research programme into an encompassing, holistic programme to facilitate education and capacity building, and enhance water resources management and governance.

IHP facilitates an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to watershed and aquifer management, which incorporates the social dimension of water resources, and promotes and develops international research in hydrological and freshwater sciences. UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme, founded in 1975 and implemented in six-year programmatic time intervals or phases, is entering its eighth phase to be implemented during the period 2014-2021.

IHP French National Committee

National Committees form the backbone of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) and are fundamental to ensuring the widest possible participation of Member States in the international programme.  These Committees are constituted and run under the authority of national governments and play a critical role in the implementation of the IHP.

The French Water Partnership has been chosen as the secretariat for the work of the French Committee for the International Hydrological Program of Unesco (UNESCO-IHP). The French Committee for the International Hydrological Program (IHP) has therefore been reactivated since May 2016.

The chairmanship of the committee shall be appointed for one year, renewable at one of the meetings of the committee by co-option among the members present. Nathalie Dorfliger was appointed on September 6, 2017.
